OVERVIEWThe Ministry of Plantation Industries and Commodities (MPIC) has recently announced that Malaysia's Sustainable Palm Oil Certification will now be made mandatory by year 2019. The scheme, known as the Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO), first launched in 2015, based on the MSPO standards (MS2530:2013 series) provides general principles for the production of sustainable palm oil that covers the 3Ps (People, Planet, Profit) in Malaysia. Incentive wise, the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) will part-fund audit fees for mid-sized oil palm estates, so as to be Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO) certified by 2019. Potential companies i.e. FGVP (M) Sdn. Bhd., Sime Darby, Genting Plantations, IJM Plantations, Sarawak Oil Palms Berhad (SOP), Sustainable Palm Oil Cluster (SPOC) Beluran, SPOC Saratok and SPOC Kulai Jaya will be the first group of companies ready for MSPO Certification. MOVING FORWARD?MSPO certification demonstrates your commitment to sustainable palm oil production, to meet stakeholder and customer expectations regarding corporate social responsibility (CSR). It demonstrates that you have better understanding of your supply chain as well as a robust management system, allowing you to increase efficiency while reducing social and environmental impact.
